Hornsea Freeport announces Dove House Hospice as chosen charity of the year – 2012
Outlet shopping centre, Hornsea Freeport, has announced plans to team up with Dove House Hospice throughout 2012, to help the local charity raise vital funds.
Hornsea Freeport is set to support a range of Dove House initiatives, including the charity’s Love You 2 Appeal and lottery fund.
Fundraising activities will also be tied in with the shopping centre’s calendar of events, as well as the charity’s seasonal appeals.
Hornsea Freeport Centre Manager, Simon Tudor, said:
“We’re incredibly proud to announce that we’ll be supporting such a reputable local charity throughout 2012. We’ve got an exciting calendar of fundraising initiatives and events in store, and we really hope that people will get involved and help us to raise as much money as possible for Dove House.
“It’s very important for businesses to support local charities, and we’re looking forward to helping Dove House continue their fantastic work within the local community.”
Maya Richardson, Acting Fundraising Manager at Dove House Hospice, said:
“For Dove House to meet its fundraising targets, the support from local organisations such as Hornsea Freeport is incredibly important, and we’re delighted that they have taken the time to think about us and name us as their chosen charity for 2012. We’re looking forward to getting started in the New Year with a host of fundraising opportunities that we’ve got planned throughout 2012.”
Dove House Hospice provides specialist palliative care to people with all types of life limiting illnesses. The hospice opened in 1983 and has become a core part of health provision in the region, with the specified aim of helping patients and families live life to the full.
Dove House does not charge for its services. However, it only receives local authority funding for 81 days a year, meaning it has to rely on financial donations, fund-raising events and public donations to raise around £3.2m every single year to meet the £5m running costs of the charity.
Hornsea Freeport has more than 30 factory outlet stores offering up to 50% discounts on famous brands, including Thorntons, Clarks, Nike, Cotton Traders, Accessories and The Wedding Collection. With places to eat and drink, family events and children’s entertainment, Hornsea Freeport is also close to the beach and many east coast attractions, making it a perfect destination for a family day out.
